with JB Glossinger, MBA, PhD

JB GlossingerIsaac Asimov wrote over 400 books in his lifetime. Many authors struggle to write just one.

How can you turn out lots of content, day after day, for blogs, podcasts, and articles? Do you have to be Isaac Asimov? That may help, but our next program will give you some tips and strategies for becoming more prolific.

Having more content will lead to more income. Come listen to what JB Glossinger has to say.

Read more about this session at the bottom of this newsletter, then register or pre-order the MP3. Note: Everyone who registers for the teleseminar will get the MP3 recording of the session for free.

Intensive — Getting and Keeping Decision Makers’ Attention

To be taken seriously, you have to understand the decision makers’ goals and concerns. You have to know what problems they face which don’t yet have a viable solution. Yet most won’t give you more than 5 minutes unless you have a strong introduction. What will make them hear you out? Partly, it’s speaking their language, using terms and issues that are keeping them up at night.

Whether C-level execs or meeting professionals, learn how they think, what they want and how to approach them. Know what turns them off and how to get information on their hot buttons before your call or meeting. Know how to make your pitch succinctly to pique their interest.

These three recordings will help you understand how to sell to decision makers.

  • “Getting Through to Meeting Planners” with Shawna Suckow
  • “Speaking” Corporate — A Former Executive’s View” with Bill Russell
  • “Getting to Corporate Decision Makers” with Jill Konrath

Miscellaneous Tips

SEO resourcesDebra Fine

First I read Heather Lutze’s outstanding book Marketing Espionage, then I hired Ross Palmer (ross@aloamarketing.com) to implement all I learned. Ross is an expert at designing and marketing websites. He dramatically increased the speed of my website, doubled my organic traffic in less than a month, and revamped the design while fixing technical errors behind the scenes. He truly understands the totality of the digital marketing landscape. I recommend these two resources.

Subscribe to info that interests your audienceMary Schaefer

I subscribe to industry-specific online newsletters and feeds for my target audience. This helps me to know what is going on for them right now. I can then share curated, current, relevant information and news with them through my own newsletter or social media. It also allows me to refer to topics and experts in their field while weaving in the connection to what I have to offer.

Turn blog posts into beautiful photo essaysDave Lieber

You can turn your blog posts into beautiful photo essays for free using imgur.com. Not only do your photos and accompanying captions look good on a laptop, they also look great on a phone and on imgur’s free app. Imgur gives you a URL that you can submit to Reddit (the “front page of the Internet”). Usually, you risk a lifetime ban if you submit your own stuff to Reddit, but it appears that you avoid that here because you’re using an imgur URL.

Imgur suggests you put a link to your specific blog post on the last slide to draw traffic to your site. I’m testing it. It is drawing more traffic, looks beautiful and is very easy to use. And it might attract people who prefer to look at my pictures than read my longer story. One more feature: each photo has its own URL, useful to cut out a single photo and use it as a meme.

Managing HARO potential leadsHalelly Azulay

When I first signed up for HARO (Help a Reporter Out), I felt very overwhelmed by sifting through the 2x/day emails filled with non-relevant requests, seeking the few that might fit my expertise. I then delegated this task to my VA and voila! When there is something that is a potential fit for me, she sends me an email with only that query for me to review, with the deadline in the email subject line, I craft the response and she puts it into the template I’ve created that includes my standard intro and byline. Then we send it. I’ve gotten a lot more mentions in various media since incorporating this hack.

Neighborhood marketing tipRebecca Morgan

Try asking your still-working neighbors for coffee and sharing what you both do professionally. You may find, as I am, that many are executives at good-sized companies who could benefit from your services. If they’re with smaller companies, they may be willing to introduce you to execs at past companies. There may be other ways you could support each other’s endeavors. At the least, you have a closer connection with someone on your block.

Technology Tips

Voice to textWinston Marsh

Colleagues seem to use all sorts of software for this but I’ve found that Siri in my iPhone works really well. I dictate my content into an email and, once dictated, send the email to myself to edit, enhance and paste into whatever format I want. Yes, I know I could just dictate straight to the format I want but emailing it to me means that whenever I have a flash of creative brilliance I can rattle off my thoughts for later fine tuning. Works for me but maybe I’m an analog thinker in a digital world!
