Many More Speaking Engagements

with Steve Markman

Steve MarkmanSuppose you had a coffee service for companies, and you wanted some advice on how to get more business? Who would you want to talk to?

You’d probably like to talk with other people who sold to corporate buyers, to find out what worked for them. And you’d probably like to talk with some corporate buyers themselves, to find out what sort of approaches got their attention and interest.

The same is true for the speaking business, and our next program features an expert who has *sold* speakers’ services to clients, and who has also *bought* speakers’ services. If you want to know what works in getting more speaking business, you’ll want to hear Steve Markman.

Read more about this session at the bottom of this newsletter, then register or pre-order the MP3. Note: Everyone who registers for the teleseminar will get the MP3 recording of the session for free.

Intensive — Using Video to Attract and Close More Sales

Video — you know it brings in more viewers than printed words. You know it can dramatically increase your brand and your business. And you know you are daunted by the prospect of producing and promoting videos.

You don’t want to produce another of the millions of boring videos that get no traction. But where do you start? What are people looking for? What kind of camera setup, lighting, sound, teleprompter and background might you need? How do you do it on a tight budget? How do you ensure those looking for what you offer can find it?

How can you create videos to use in your presentations to make a point? Do you need a script? How much time should you allow to record when you’re not just standing in front of a camera?

These questions and more will be covered in these three SNN webinar recordings.

  • “YouTube: The Free Tool You’re Not Using Enough to Bring You Business” (Webinar) with Darren LaCroix, CSP
  • “Strategies, Tips and Tools for Creating Videos for Marketing and Sales” (Webinar) with Frank Furness
  • “Create Dazzling Videos to Transfix Audiences and Springboard Your Business” (Webinar) with Eric Chester, CSP, CPAE

Miscellaneous Tips

YouTube tips — Randy Gage

  • Create a “channel” with a brand name and theme instead of just having a page.
  • Turn off the ads. The meager income isn’t worth the viewers you lose.
  • Use at least ten key words.
  • Always ask people to subscribe.
  • Include your main website URL in each show description. (YouTube is now one of the biggest search engines in the world.)
  • Create playlists in different categories or popular topics.
  • Publish on a schedule and let viewers know what it is.
  • Don’t try to be Hollywood slick. Natural, authentic you will ultimately serve you better.

(Editors’ note: Don’t miss Randy’s April 16 SNN teleseminar, "How to Become a Thought Leader.")

Panel moderation tipsHelen Spielman

I was recently a panel member at a small meeting. The moderator was prepared with questions, but failed to make the experience effective by:

  • including all the panel members more or less equally
  • keeping the topics moving quickly
  • recognizing the level (or lack) of the audience’s technical knowledge
  • having a specific system for eliciting questions from the audience
  • knowing how to intervene when necessary

(Editors’ note; Kristin Arnold shared lots of great ideas on effective panels in her SNN teleseminar, “How To Be a Freakin’ Brilliant Panelist.”)

Rebecca Morgan Special deal — 1:1 consulting with Rebecca Morgan for tax-deductible donation to help disadvantaged women and children in SE Asia. Technology Tips

Change your remote’s batteriesJanet Crawford

Always carry fresh batteries for your remote and change them every time you give a presentation. Batteries are cheap and you can always keep the “old” ones for use at home. Likewise, always ask the audio tech to put in fresh batteries in your mic. Yes, it’s their job to make sure the equipment is in good order, but after multiple experiences of batteries going out in major conference settings, I make sure to double check.

(Rebecca’s note: My remote is charged via USB so I never have to carry or exchange batteries. Of course, I have to make charging the remote part of my pre-presentation routine.)

Tips for WordPress sitesSandra Shelton

If you monitor your WordPress sites, I learned after a malware attack that when you deactivate a plugin, DELETE IT. Leaving a deactivated plugin (or theme) on your WordPress blog or site makes you more vulnerable to attack.

How to move a .mobi file from your computer onto your iPhone Kindle appSusan Friedmann

  1. In your Kindle app settings locate your “send-to-kindle” email address
  2. Copy and paste that address into “TO” in a new email
  3. “FROM address” is your Amazon login email address
  4. Attach the .mobi file from your computer to the message
  5. No subject line needed
  6. Press send
  7. The file should then appear in the “DOCS” file in your Kindle Library and also in “ALL ITEMS”
  8. Here’s a video if you need more help

Many More Speaking Engagements

with Steve Markman

Steve MarkmanIt’s the ever-present question: How do I get more engagements?

Wouldn’t it be great to hear the advice from an insider — someone who has hired speakers for huge conferences, as well as sold speaker services as a bureau? He’ll give you the scoop from both perspectives. How do you find events where you’d be a great fit? How do you find the buyer and contact him/her so your message gets read? What would make you more attractive to a decision maker? What can you do to stand out from the others being considered?

There are nuances that can either turn a buyer off, or cause him/her to reach out to you — and ideally only you. What are those details in your approach that are compelling?

Then, once you’re hired, how do you leverage speaking opportunities to sell more of your products/services? And how do you ensure your presentations aren’t stale and outdated?

With 30 years of experience in the speaker/conference industry, Steve has built a speaker agency used by professional speakers, authors, corporate executives, and associations. He’ll share what he’s learned from being a conference organizer and a speaker provider that you can apply to your business.

In this program you will learn how to:

  • research and identify the “right” speaking opportunities — and how to reach the decision-makers
  • stand out from the crowd of other paid speakers
  • submit eye-catching proposals to the event organizers — the formal and informal processes
  • leverage speaking engagement to create leads for your products or services
