Make Your Visual Brand
Uniquely Memorable
with Brian O’Mara-Croft

Brian O’Mara-CroftDo you use presentation visuals (Keynote, PowerPoint, etc.)?

Some speakers wouldn’t be caught dead using visuals like these, and that’s fine. But many others do use them to help their audiences learn and remember their message.

As you no doubt have seen, most presentation visuals are dull and boring. Which means there is an opportunity to stand apart from the crowd, with well-designed and compelling visuals.

If you’d like to have your audience sit up and take notice when your visuals appear, don’t miss this next SNN program.

Read more about this session at the bottom of this newsletter, then register or pre-order the MP3. Note: Everyone who registers for the webinar will get the MP3 recording of the session for free, as well as a link to the recorded video.

Miscellaneous Tips

Freelancer resourcesSusan Friedmann

This article has information on competitors to Upwork when looking to find freelancers. Since there many who are dissatisfied with their service, you might want to check these out.

(Editors’ note: Susan provided an information-packed teleseminar for us on “How to Profit from Exhibiting, Whether You’re Speaking at the Event or Not.”

Invaluable resourcesBeth Terry

You can find invaluable research papers at no cost on a number of the STEM disciplines for your presentation research. University students and researchers often pay hundreds to thousands of dollars for this research, but it’s available online.

  • Cornell University Access to 1,532,551 e-prints in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, statistics, electrical engineering and systems science, and economics.
  • This amazing archive crawls and takes screenshots of web pages. Use this if you lost pages on your site, or to check the veracity of stories that have mysteriously disappeared online. Even works on YouTube videos and deleted websites.
  • Then, for fun, there’s The End of the Internet. This has a background drawn by one of my favorite comics XKCD.com and comes complete with Buzzword Bay and the Dopamine Sea. (I’m a fan of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, so this appeals to my weird sense of humor.)

Technology Tips

Podcast resourceRob Shore

If you are using the native Apple Podcast app on your phone, you may be missing out on a ton of functionality and features that other players offer. Overcast is an amazing free player, which syncs between devices, allows you to control listening speed by show, and so much more.

As a bonus, they have just introduced the ability to share one-minute clips of podcast episodes, which is awesome if you’re a podcast producer or simply want to share with a colleague/client.

(Editors’ note: Rob shared his strategies for thriving in a niche market in his SNN teleseminar “Build a Big Following in a Small Niche.”)

Make Your Visual Brand
Uniquely Memorable
with Brian O’Mara-Croft

Brian O’Mara-CroftYou want a cohesive, memorable experience for audiences, yet many presenters treat presentation design as an afterthought. Even veteran presenters, with all the right credentials, seem not to understand how their visuals set them apart — or set them back. Why would you just stand up when you can stand out?

Even if you think your visuals are “killer,” there’s likely room to make them even better.

Brian will illustrate how the combination of active language, compelling visuals, and eye-popping animation and video can transform “ho-hum” into “wow!” Combining science, proven principles of effective design, and stunning examples, he will show even seasoned professionals how to up their visual branding game.

If you have someone else create your visuals for you, encourage him/her to also attend to understand the concepts Brian will share.

You will learn how to:

  • avoid the most common mistakes speakers make in shaping their presentation visuals
  • extend your visual presence across your overall brand — presentations, handouts, one-sheets and more
  • transform your messages from bullet points to a cohesive and compelling story
  • find the perfect balance of visuals, animations, text and other elements that will make your messages “pop”
