Robin SpeculandWhy should you write a (or another) book? It’s often asserted that having a book can really boost a speaker’s career.

But is that still true? And if it is, what are the best ways today to write and market that book? And once you have it, how can you turn it into an entire range of products and services?

Come to our next program and find out.

Miscellaneous Tips

Research report to help drive more businessDavid Newman

“Clutch” is the leading global marketplace of B2B service providers. They just released their “2025 Clutch Small Business Growth Playbook.” Clutch partnered with Drive Research to survey 500 small business buyers across various industries to better understand what’s working (and not working) to drive more revenue for speakers, consultants, and service providers.

They found that:

  • 44% of SMB decision-makers agree that AI will have the biggest business impact in 2025
  • SMB decision-makers are prioritizing profitability (63%) and growth (62%)
  • 70% of SMBs plan to increase outsourcing in 2025
  • 61% of SMB decision-makers say cybersecurity is crucial for their business growth in 2025

Dangers of an AI cloneMartha Legare

In a recent SNN, I read about Caryn Marjorie selling conversations with her AI clone. You might be interested in why she pulled the plug, as a warning to those who might be considering cloning themselves with AI.

Tips from an independent meeting professionalBonni Scepkowski

  1. Content is everything. I need to know that the takeaway is actionable and appropriate.
  2. Don’t make more work for me. I’ve got 35 other suppliers and my attendees to work with every day. Print and distribute your own handouts. I’ve had speakers come up to me with a USB stick right before they start, asking for me to print and hand out their docs.
  3. Please don’t expect to speak to the client too soon. It’s my job to find and vet the best content. They are very clear on what they want. It’s my job to find you. If we are moving forward, I promise you’ll get face time with the VIPs.

Imagine if they had to speak with the 100s of vendors that I have to dig through?

And be nice to everyone. Just because it’s nice to be nice.

Engagement x 1000!Shawna Suckow

Speakers who just do the “talk to your neighbor for two minutes” and call that engagement are missing the mark these days. Talks have to be way more immersive to keep people off their phones, no matter how good the content is.

Technology Tips

Shifting from ExcelJamie Champagne

If you’re trying to get off of Excel spreadsheets and email, try ClientJoy, a cheap app from AppSumo (we did a one-time purchase price). While not as robust, it makes you figure out your processes. What are you trying to do? What do you need daily? What do you track and why? Where does this data come from?

Starting to shift your perspective makes the transition to Zoho or other CRM much easier and smoother (and effective) as you know what you want the system to do. It is worth thinking through your own processes before diving in and automating.

Add HDMI cable to presentation took kitRebecca Morgan

Maybe you learned this before me, but last week I showed up at a local client’s facilities and their HDMI cable didn’t work, even though they said it worked the week before, with no extra to be found. Luckily, I was able to figure out a workaround, but it made me realize I should add an HDMI cable to my presentation tool kit. If you don’t have it in yours, I suggest adding one.
